BULLFIGHTERS (TOREROS)

 



JUAN JIMÉNEZ RIPOLL “ EL ECIJANO” (1859-1899)

He is the first bullfighter of the Fiesta History from Ecija and the first one also to use the ring name of “El Ecijano” (Ecijan or man from Ecija).
He received the formal recognition as matador (or alternativa) in Madrid by the hand of Rafael Guerra Bejarano on May the 22nd, 1890.
He fought with the most important figures of his time such as El Lagartijo, El Gallo, El Guerra, Mazzantini, etc. and also triumphed at South America bullrings.
He was a man of strong personality, had incomparable technique and great command upon the bulls, although he did not outstand as a depurated artist.

RAFAEL SORIA MOLINA “EL LAGARTIJO” (1930)

He belonged to the Molina Cordovan dynasty and is formally recognised as matador at Montoro’s bullring on October the 7th in 1951 with Jose Maria Martorell as sponsor. He fought four bullfights.

BARTOLOMÉ JIMÉNEZ TORRES (1929)

This professional has been the one who has aroused more passion among our town’s Bullfighting enthusiasts.
He receives formal recognition as matador on September the 21st of 1954 at Ecija’s bullring by the hand of Antonio Bienvenida.

JAIME OSTOS CARMONA (1931)

Until the present moment this Ecijan matador is considered one of the most famous and brilliant ones at the Spanish Fiesta, being an unquestionable figure of first order for many years.

He was formally recognised as matador on October the 13th of 1956 by the hand of Miguel Baez “Litri” and since then he stood out because of his daring and continuous devotion.
He retired from the Fight after many bullfights in 1977.

Among several merits he has the “Cruz de la Beneficencia” (Spanish Order of Merit).

GUILLERMO GUTIÉRREZ EGEA “EL ECIJANO”(1943)

He is confirmed as matador on September the 21st of 1969 by the hand of Victoriano Roger Valencia.
After his recognition he did not bullfight any more. On the same year he started his career as banderillero accompanying great bullfight figures in Spain, America and France.

 

JOSÉ ANTONIO CAMPUZANO ( 1954)

He received formal recognition as matador in Seville on April the 29th of 1973 by the hand of Luis Miguel “Dominguin”.
This indisputable figure of the Fiesta since 1982 has bull fought in many American bullrings.

PEPE LUIS VARGAS (1959)

On April the 17th of 1979 he got formal recognition as matador in Seville by the hand of Curro Romero. He has fought more than 100 bullfightings.

TOMAS CAMPUZANO (1957)

This second bullfighter from the Campuzano dynasty receives his formal recognition at the Real Maestranza of Seville by the hand of Curro Romero on April the 24th of 1979.
He bull fought in every important Feria of Spain, as well as in all the American countries where bullfight is held.

ANTONIO RAMÓN JIMÉNEZ MUÑOZ (1954)

This son of Bartolome Jimenez Torres receives formal recognition as matador at Seville’s Real Maestranza on October the 2nd of 1983 by the hand of Manolo Cortes.

JOSÉ LUIS PÉREZ "EL NIÑO DEL TENTADERO" (1968)

His formal recognition as matador was received by him in Ecija by the hand of "El Litri" on October the 15th of 1994.
